The prokaryotic cell cycle
Webb15 apr. 2024 · The cell cycle is a phenomenon in biology unique to eukaryotes. Cell cycle phases consist of stages collectively called interphase, and an M phase (mitosis) that includes prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. This is followed by cytokinesis, or splitting of the cell into two daughter cells. WebbCells fall into one of two broad categories: prokaryotic and eukaryotic. Only the predominantly single-celled organisms of the domains Bacteria and Archaea are classified as prokaryotes (pro- = “before”; -kary- = “nucleus”). Cells of animals, plants, fungi, and protists are all eukaryotes (eu- = “true”) and have a nucleus.
