High e string won't intonate

Web5 de mar. de 2016 · My strat won't intonate. It still remains sharp on the 12th fret. It's a John Mayer Signature. -Shimmed the neck with an upward angle. Before the action was too low and the saddle screws were at their max so I shimmed it. The action is great now. -The saddle is flush with the body with 5 springs holding it. Web7 de fev. de 2013 · Yesterday I noticed my hi E string way out of tune when fretted. Tuning dead on with open string and chimed at 12 fret. But anywhere I fret the string it's really flat. If I sharpen the open tuning it sounds good fretted. When setting intonation. It chimes in tune at 12 fret, but is quite flat fretted at 12. Changing saddle position does not help.

WebAssuming your A and D strings are intonated correctly, the length of that E looks about right, maybe even a little too far back. As in the comments, check the neck relief and the action, and get those about right before checking the intonation. That is, the distance from the speaking side of the nut to the middle of the 12th fret will be very close to equal to the distance from the middle of the 12th fret to the contact point of the saddle. Web11 de out. de 2024 · 1) The best choice is to make 3rd fret lower , it has to be done very carefully , you may effect other bars (if you do it wrong you may have this buzzing on 4th and 5th and etc.) 2) Your second choice is to change the entire string's height with adjusting "bridge". It may effect your playing so don't change it a lot. WebCheck your nut slot at the high E position. If it is dirty, clean it with string or whatever other improvised tool you can use. If the slot is too small for the string gauge that you're using, you could restring it using a smaller gauge. Or you could file it a bit wider yourself if you have any gauged files around .010-.013.

If your action is too high, you can't intonate the guitar. I would get the neck squared away and then get the middle of the saddle positioned to yield the correct scale length.
