WebJan 15, 2024 · Raven Rock is also the mid-point for this 10 mile-long hike. Most of the AT in Maryland is contained within the boundaries of South Mountain State Park, including virtually all of these 10 miles. I first hiked this section a couple of years ago while “thru-hiking” Maryland from Harpers Ferry to Pen Mar. WebWe stopped at the Ed Garvey shelter and the Rock run shelter. The foot bridge in harpers ferry was closed and we added a couple of miles. First day became the longest at 13.5 ish miles. Note: trust your gut and the trail blazes cause we ended up going off the trail. Backcountry hiking is always an adventure.
